The Beginning

My motivations to volunteer with ICS were in believing that the project was built for a reason that went beyond just working with women and went to help them have a better quality of life. I have now met a group of people who have the same conviction. We didn't know how big the impact would be on the lives of the families we are supporting, but now I realise it will change our own lifestyles.

Although immediate results are not visible from our current work and effort, the most gratification comes from seeing that the women are taking advantage of the chance to grow, by teaching them that working together helps to achieve better results.

Travelling each day and seeing the women of every family smile because they have a space to grow their vegetables and feed their family, gives the greatest feeling of satisfaction. This is a real boost for them to better their food, life and empowers them to be leaders so they can go forward in a sustainable manner.

For our Action Friday, a few of us from the project went to visit the other project to see their activities. I was surprised that volunteers have all the patience, love and desire to help people with disabilities, and that they see another reality where help is always welcome.

People want to change the world, but do not know where to start. The project helped me to see the reality of others, and the need as a human being to support others. I think no matter where you are, there is always a child, a person, a family or community you could start supporting.
